Il chipping è un effetto molto praticato all’interno della comunità modellistica per realizzare scrostature, graffi e danni superficiali su vetture, carri, aerei o qualsiasi altro soggetto.
Una tecnica storica, ma lenta e complessa da utilizzare, prevede l’utilizzo del sale da cucina (grosso e fino) come maschera mobile ma la moderna tecnologia applicata ai colori ha reso possibile andare oltre e oggi questo effetto è estremamente semplice da realizzare.
Per questo tutorial abbiamo utilizzato prodotti Vallejo, più precisamente Primer grigio 73.601, Chainmal Silver 72.753 , Bloody Red 72.710 entrambi della nuova linea Game Air, il Gloss Varnish 70.510 opportunamente diluito e, ovviamente, il nuovissimo Chipping Medium 73.214.
Per dare un effetto più vissuto è stato spruzzato un nero per aerografo Pen Color che, una volta inumidito, lascia un effetto sporco molto pronunciato.
La preparazione della superficie, nel nostro caso un classico cucchiaio di plastica, passa per la copertura della superficie con il primer grigio.
il secondo step prevede uno o più passaggi sottili di Chainmal Silver così da uniformare la superficie in preparazione della stesura del Chipping Medium dato ad aerografo subito dopo l’asciugatura del colore.
Una volta asciutto il Chipping Medium il cucchiaio è stato spruzzato con il Bloody Red.
Subito dopo sono state realizzate le ombreggiature con il nero Pen Color.
Per realizzare le scrostature, una volta asciutta la superficie, è possibile utilizzare vari pennelli o suzzicadenti così da rendere più realistico l’effetto finale. Prima di procedere con questi strumenti è però necessaio inumidire leggermente la vernice appena asciugata bagnando con della semplice acqua le zone che verranno sottoposte al trattamento. Ovviamente la quantità dei graffi deve essere proporzionata al livello di usura che si desidera ottenere sulla superficie interessata dall’effetto.
Una volta soddisfatti è necessario sigillare il tutto spruzzando una o più mani di trasparente lucido o opaco in base al risultato che si desidera ottenere. Nel nostro caso abbiamo optato per una superficie lucida.
