From Green Stuff World a“Stuff” to replicate your favorite subjects in a few minutes

 

Replicare un oggetto in resina è sempre stato un problema per I modellisti che, per vari motivi, non potevano lavorare con gomme e resine. Green Stuff World ha offerto una ingegnosa soluzione a questo problema con Blue Stuff, una particolare gomma che necessita solo di una tazza di acqua calda rubare le forme di un particolare oggetto.

Replicate an object using resin has always been a problem for modellers who, for various reasons, were not allowed to work with resins and silicone. Green Stuff World offered a smart solution to this problem with Blue Stuff, a particular rubber which requires only a cup of hot water to steal the shapes of a particular object.

Blue Stuff si presenta sotto forma di barrette blu racchiuse in un blister trasparente contenente anche le istruzioni per l’uso. Una volta aperto si nota subito che questo materiale è elastico quanto basta per sformare i pezzi ma, a temperatura ambiente, troppo rigido per essere lavorato. Per renderlo tale basta una semplice tazza di acqua scaldata al microonde quanto basta per non farla bollire. Nel nostro caso abbiamo scaldato l’acqua per cinque minuti a 900 W. Inserite le barrette abbiamo provveduto a farle adagiare al fondo grazie al peso di un cucchiaio; in meno di un minuto le barrette potevano così essere lavorate.
ATTENZIONE: usate il cucchiaio per estrarre Blue Stuff dall’acqua, altrimenti rischiate di scottarvi

Blue Stuff presents itself in the form of blue bars enclosed in a transparent blister containing also the instructions to use it. Once open you will notice immediately that this material is elastic enough for taking the objects from the mould, at ambient temperature, too rigid to be worked. To use it you just need a simple cup of water heated in the microwave enough not to boil. In our case we have heated water for five minutes at 900 W. Once the bars were in the water we proceeded to make them lay at the bottom with a spoon; in less than a minute the bars could now be manipulated.
BEWARE: Use the spoon to extract Blue Stuff from the water, otherwise can get burned

Per la nostra prova abbiamo deciso di utilizzare oggetti molto differenti: uno zaino proveniente da uno Space Marine della Games Workshop, una basetta in Milliput e un sasso.

Una volta pronta Blue Stuff abbiamo semplicemente prelevato dalla palla di gomma la quantità di materiale sufficiente a coprirli singolarmente e l’abbiamo premuta sopra facendo attenzione a far entrare la gomma anche nei recessi.

For our test we decided to use different objects: a backpack from a Space Marine of Games Workshop, a miniature base in Milliput and a stone.
Once the Blue Stuff is ready we simply picked the amount of material needed to cover them individually from the rubber ball and pressed it on the objects taking care to reach also the undercut.

Una volta posizionata la gomma l’abbiamo lasciata raffreddare per qualche minuto. Una volta indurita abbiamo estratto i pezzi senza alcun problema.

Once fitted we allowed to cool the rubber for a few minutes. When it was hardened enough we extracted the pieces without any problem.

Per provarne la versatilità abbiamo deciso di metterla alla prova con due materiali molto diversi tra loro: Milliput e resina.

Nel primo caso, dopo aver mescolato in parti uguali i due componenti, abbiamo premuto lo stucco negli stampi fino al riempimento e abbiamo tolto l’eccesso con una spatola così da lasciare meno residui possibile.

Nel secondo caso abbiamo provveduto a mescolare resina e catalizzatore e colato il tutto nello stampo.

In order to prove the versatility we decided to put it to the test with two very different: Milliput and resin. In the first case, after mixing in equal parts the two components, we pressed the putty in the molds to fill them up and removed the excess with a spatula to leave a flat surface. In the second case we proceeded to mix resin and catalyst and cast it into the mold.

Il risultato è stato eccellente in entrambi I casi come si può vedere dalle immagini. I particolari sono stati replicati in modo più che soddisfacente sia con il Milliput sia con la resina. Sul sito Green Stuff World sono presenti anche alcuni tutorial su come realizzare altri oggetti con questo materiale.

A proposito della resina ammettiamo di aver avuto qualche dubbio sulla fattibilità in quanto una volta mescolati i composti la reazione genera calore. Nonostante questo lo stampo ha retto senza problemi permettendoci così di replicare più volte l’oggetto in un tempo nettamente inferiore rispetto al Milliput.

The result was excellent in both cases as you can see from the pictures. The details were replicated in a more than satisfactory way both with Milliput and resin. Talking about resin we admit that we had some doubts about the durability of the mold because, once components are mixed, the reaction generates heat. Despite this the mold has withstood without any problem allowing us to replicate multiple times the object in significantly less time than the Milliput.

Terminata la fase di stampaggio la gomma è stata riutilizzata semplicemente immergendola nuovamente in acqua calda. Blue Stuff si è quindi dimostrato un sistema pratico, veloce e molto semplice da usare per replicare velocemente pezzi anche molto dettagliati.

At the end of the molding step the rubber has been reused simply immersing it again in hot water. Blue Stuff proved to be a practical, fast and very easy to use system for quickly replicate also very detailed pieces.
